Precise control for tile lippage.
One of the most important aspects of a good tiling job is preventing lippage. Tilers used to lose too much time while trying to level tiles, especially large-format tiles, and effort alone could not prevent lippage completely. The solution is the Zeminer Leveling System.
Zeminer offers a precise and reliable Tile Leveling System. It is a 3-part system composed of a clip, a wedge and a plier. The design is easy to learn and apply, no matter the experience level.

What to know before choosing a leveling system.

01 · Why do we need a Leveling System?
In the past decade, tiles have become larger and larger. 60×60 cm tiles used to be the largest format in the market. Today, we see 90×90 cm and even 120×240 cm. The problem with large-format tiles is that they can have a bow on their surfaces. This is an inevitable natural outcome of tile production. You can notice it by placing the tiles back to back: they are not precisely flat. During installation, a tiler cannot physically make bowed tiles perfectly level without a leveling system.
Thin set properties are the second reason. One ingredient of thin set is water, and after application the water dries out due to hydration. The thin set can shrink, and it usually shrinks unevenly depending on material composition and application portion. With the Zeminer Leveling System, tiles are fixed in place and cannot move freely while the thin set shrinks.

02 · What is a large format tile?
A tile that has any side longer than 40 cm, approximately 15 inches, is referred to as a large-format tile. A Tile Leveling System is essential for proper spacing and alignment when working with large-format tiles.
-
03 · What is lippage?
Lippage means a vertical displacement between two adjacent tiles. Excessive lippage risks pedestrian safety in external areas and household comfort in internal areas. It can also cause chipping on tile edges.
-
04 · What is the standard for acceptable lippage?
A practical reference for acceptable lippage is the thickness of a credit card, which is around 0.75 mm, or 0.03 inches.
-
05 · How do I use the system?
- Apply a thick bed of tile adhesive using a trowel and place the leveling clips on the sides of the tile.
- Place the second tile on the empty side of the leveling clips.
- Bed in adjoining tiles and push a leveling wedge into the leveling clips until they touch.
- Using the leveling plier, squeeze the wedge until the tiles are level.
- Wait until the adhesive sets hard, according to adhesive instructions.
- Remove the wedges and clips using your foot or a plastic hammer.
- Hit the leveling wedge from the side, parallel to the grout lines.
- Never hit the leveling wedge perpendicular to the grout line.
-
06 · How many pieces do I need?
A and B lengths refer to the side lengths of the tile. The required quantity of leveling wedges and leveling clips changes according to tile size.
Example: for a 60×60 cm tile, you need approximately 11 leveling wedges and 11 leveling clips per square meter.
